Portrack Marsh, Stockton.

Portrack Marsh, Stockton.

Portrack Marsh is situated just East of the Tees Barrage, and is reached by parking in the car park of the Talpore Hotel. The marsh is then visible, below the level of the car park. As the name suggests, this is a marshy area, with birds such as Lapwing, Redshank, Mute Swan, Gulls, Heron, Coot, Moorhen, Tufted Duck, etc all being present. There are a lot of Goldfinch in the trees here. A family of Otters have recently had young here, which is great new for the area. To the south of the marsh, is the River Tees, along with it's usual terns, Guillemots, Kingfisher, etc. A Hobby was seen  here this year, probably hunting the loads of dragonflies that are around.
