Bishop's Wood, Auckland Castle.

Follow signs for Auckland Castle, not far from Bishop Auckland town centre.

This great birding site lies in the grounds of Auckland Castle, and has a great variety of woodland birds.

Birds I have seen here include Great Spotted Woodpecker, Blue, Coal, Great, Long-Tailed and Willow Tits, Green finch, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Goldcrest, Robin Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Dippers can be found in the stream (River Gaunless), (so I am told!). There is an old Deer House along the walk, it is normally a good site to set up the scope, as it offers good views.
